An Air India Express Boeing 737 (B737) flight with 189 passengers plus six crew members on board coming from Dubai has skidded off the runway while landing at Kerala’s Kozhikode this evening around 7.40 pm. There have been no casualties reported so far, but the pilot of the aircraft is said to be in critical condition. This was a repatriation flight, part of Vande Bharat mission.
The Kozhikode airport is notoriously known to have a tabletop runway and a difficult airport to land a plane. After overshooting the runway, the aircraft dropped 30 to 40 feet below in a pit and split into two. A fifty member NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) team has been rushed to Kozhikode.
The aircraft was a 13-year-old – a Boeing 737 aircraft.
The weather has been very bad in Kozhikode and it has been raining heavily the whole day.
The injured from the crash have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
