Ryanair set to make another 737 MAX order?

Ryanair boss Micheal O’Leary is looking to secure a large order of the 737 MAX. However this time it will be the larger variant the MAX 10. Boeing made the airline exclusive for Ryanair the MAX 200.

Boeing’s Exclusive for Ryanair the 737 MAX 200

Firstly Ryanair is one of Boeing’s biggest customers with an all Boeing Fleet of over 450 Boeing 737-800. Furthermore with orders of up to 210 new Boeing 737 aircraft. This includes 135 new Boeing 737 MAX 200s, and options for 75 more MAX 200s, which will grow its fleet to 585 by 2024

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said: “We are already in discussions with Boeing. We have an offer on the table for an order for new MAX 10s, which is a 230-seat aircraft.”

As production stopped for the MAX aircraft in December 2019 CEO O’leary further added “To be fair to them I don’t think the new management team is in a position to be able to talk to us about a new order. We understand that, but we have an offer in and we expect to be at the head of the queue.”

Will a huge order of the MAX breath new life into the program and restore the brands reputation? O’Leary will likely try to benefit from Boeing’s weak position due to the MAX Crisis. This will likely get them a favourable price and have them delivered quicker.

The first MAX 200 had expected to be delivered in time for Summer 2020 in line with Ryanair’s plans for expansion. In Consequence to the grounding Ryanair has had to close some bases such as Nuremberg and Stockholm’s Skavsta Airport.

Due to the groundings and waiting for the FAA to re-certify the MAX program Ryanair may not receive their MAX 200’s until October 2020.
